Computer Mouse Gone in the Next Five Years?

Posted on: July 21, 2008

I don’t think so. According to Gizmodo and a few other sites around the Web, people analysts are speculating that the good old computer mouse by will be replaced with touch screens and facial recognition within the next 5 years.

Steven Prentice, vice president and Gartner Fellow, told the BBC that devices such as Nintendo’s MotionPlus for the Wii and Apple’s iPhone point the way to the future, offering greater accuracy in motion detection.

Prentice goes on to say, “However, while the mouse’s 40 year-old reign is coming to an end, the keyboard is here to stay. For all its faults, the keyboard will remain the primary text input device. Nothing is easily going to replace it,” he said. “But the idea of a keyboard with a mouse as a control interface is breaking down.”

Say and predict what they will but being a creature of habit, I will always hang on to my Logitech TrackMan Marble FX. Well, as long as I can continue to replace it in the years to come.

Haha, I definitely agree Chris! I’m not sure giving up a mouse is going to be feasible.
